Five Weeks to Book Proposal is here to lead you through the intimidating process of taking your amazing ideas, story, and energy, and turning it into a traditional book proposal that you can use to sell your story. But this retreat isn’t just about the proposal, it is about the blueprint for your life as a published author.

In this five-week course, we will develop and craft a first draft of your book proposal, including the four main pieces of your pitch - overview, marketing plan, chapter summaries, and sample chapter. In each class, we will focus on different elements of the proposal process and querying to agents

Week One
Grab the MIC
We establish the meaning, intent, and confidence of your message so you can begin to develop the promise, approach, and positioning for your book - and proposal overview.

Find Your Hook
We dive into your platform and the audience for your book - establishing your community, reach, and how to create a marketing strategy for today and the day when your book is published.

Week Three
Unpack Your Stories
We begin to establish the mechanics of your story, creating an outline for your book and drafting your chapter summaries for the book proposal.

Week Four
Rise to Write
It’s time for the sample chapter. We’ll create a simple strategy to write the first draft of your sample chapter, identifying genre, tone, and the threads of your story - and strengths of your storytelling.

Week Five
Query, Query, Query
We discuss the querying process, sharing what agents are looking for, and how you can begin to not only write your proposal, but build relationships in the literary community.
